Raw, loud, and unapologetic, ”Leather and Steel” captures the fire and femme energy that defines Melbourne, Australia, 5-piece HOT MACHINE. This up-n-coming rocking machine delivers metallic hard rock they way the ladies want – no record label pressure.

”Leather and Steel” opens with “She’s On The Money”, which starts off with a classic old-school sounding guitar riff before a nice little bass lick comes in and Samantha O’Keefe‘s ’70s sounding voice takes over the song. A simple yet very effective rock n’ roll tune plenty of fire. It’s got a real live feel to it and would be interesting to find out how many takes that the group took to record this debut EP. It sounds raw, live and full of energy. It reminds us quite a bit the first time we heard Greta Van Fleet.

“Red Hot Summer” is pretty cool, just over two minutes long and that’s all you need to rock n’ roll. Just like on “She’s The Money” bassist Brittany Britten gets to showcase her bass playing a little bit. “Bad Hand” is next and starts off with a furious guitar solo. I just love the vintage sound of the guitars, bass and drums. It reminds of The Spiders – Hot Machine have that same ’70s feel but with less refinement and more just sheer rawness.
“Fuel To The Fire” adds a bluesy touch and midtempo pace, and that voice! The twin guitars shuffle here, and the analog is all over the track. “Burnt” is more ’80s oriented, with more modern vocals and layered backing. Then ”Night Rider” puts the pedal to the metal, still with a hard rock groove and an anthemic vibe.

Overall, we are very impressed by Hot Machine‘s debut ”Leather and Steel”, and want more. These young ladies certainly know hot to rock – hard. The band is working on new songs already, and it’s a matter of time they play in Europe or America, and why not, Japan.
