There was and still are many metal-related bands called RECKLESS. This one hails from Ontario, Canada, and formed in in 1978. After performing shows all across Canada, in 1980 the band signed to the Hollywood based record label ‘Harvest’. The band’s original line-up featured Steve Madden on guitar, with female Jan Melan on vocals, Gene Stout on bass and Gil Roberts on drums.

Shortly after signing to ‘Harvest’, their debut album ‘Reckless’ was released that same year. The brilliant guitar work of Madden, and the quirky vocal delivery of Melanson created a form of catchy commercial melodic rock / proto glam metal.
But circa 1983, Madden completely reinvented the band, and as only original member, assembled a new line up (two members came from Witchkiller, who released an excellent four song EP called Day Of The Saxons in 1984 on Metal Blade Records) to join the glam metal explosion.

The result is ”Heart Of Steel”, released December 1984, and the style (and the looks) was absolutely L.A. influenced, similar to Dokken, Keel, Steeler, Axe, etc. This is fun, typical 1983-1985 glam metal with great guitar work and some catchy songs to boot such as Need You Next To Me, Shadows Of You, Hot And Ready, the atmospheric midtempo Feel The Fire, the mysterious Only After Dark, and the AORish Don’t Walk Away.
