Available on all formats and 2 LPs for the first time, this 40th anniversary edition of DON HENLEY 1984’s triple platinum classic album ”Building The Perfect Beast” has been remastered from the original analog tapes. The second album from the Eagles’ founder features the hit singles “The Boys of Summer,” “All She Wants to Do Is Dance” and “Not Enough Love in the World.”
For the album, Henley collaborated primarily with guitarist Danny Kortchmar, along with members of the then line-up of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, who contributed to the writing of the songs: guitarist Mike Campbell, keyboardist Benmont Tench and drummer Stan Lynch.
”Building The Perfect Beast” also features contributions from Fleetwood Mac’s guitarist, Lindsey Buckingham, the Go-Go’s lead vocalist Belinda Carlisle, and performances from top session cats David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Randy Newman, Charlie Sexton, JD Souther, Jim Keltner, Waddy Wachtel, Pino Palladino, Ian Wallace, etc.
The album is pure ’80s, mixing Henley’s style in Eagles with 1984 US rock&pop, and while of course “The Boys of Summer” and “All She Wants to Do Is Dance” were the immeditate hits – both belong the ‘film soundtrack feel’ from the era, my favorite song from this album is “Sunset Grill”.
“Sunset Grill” is a pop-rock tune, but with a magic atmosphere midtempo AORish, plenty of synths, the incredible fretless bass work of Pino Palladino, and TOTO’s David Paich acoustic piano solo.
A welcomed reissue / remaster.
