Oxford-based FORCE OF MORTALITY are releasing their new album “Into The Abyss“, their second effort, with everything managed by themselves. Citing influences old and new, diverse and different, from Metallica to Judas Priest, Force Of Mortality plays hard and heavy metal.
Their music is characterized by abundance of sharp riffage, a thick and heavy rhythm section where the bass guitar has a strong presence, and some spry guitar solos. These things are then wrapped in arrangements where the tempo can vary from steady to speedy with a notable rock groove rising underneath.
You’ll hear all these elements congeal within Driven, The Fall, Born To The Rule, or Fight The Good Fight. More dynamic and with a certain 1990-Metallica is Rise Above It All, a really strong track.
Alternatively, a song such as Forgiveness has a near late Seventies metal atmosphere, Woman From Hell adds a thrashy riffage, then Screaming Into The Void a lot of groove. Somewhat similar, Savage Intent has a fitting heavy, dark, and foreboding musical character.
All in all, Force Of Mortality’s “Into The Abyss” offers metal fans a new Century interpretation of riff-driven metal with a modern sound. Perhaps not for everyone, but fans of groovy thrash metal will appreciate this band, with a sound not so common to hear today.
