This album is the result of pure coincidence. This the third studio album from Delta Blues Band was recorded in 1979 at Werner's Studio on January 18-19 from 7 PM to 3 AM (Thursday-Friday). The album is their fourth release overall if you include the 1976 release of Sunnyland Slim's Blues Jam With Delta Blues Band (recorded live in Copenhagen 1973).

"Can you record on Thursday?" producer Poul Bruun asked Billy Cross when Cross was visiting Bruun on a random Tuesday evening in January 1979. Cross had finally found the spare time to stay in Copenhagen for a couple of weeks when a long tour playing with Bob Dylan finally had come to an end. They had often talked about how much fun it could be to spend a night just fooling around in a studio so why not next Thursday? OK said Billy and Thursday evening he entered the studio with a loaded guitar and four experienced "giants", Delta Blues Band and the "harmonica" Jørgen Lang.
"PLAY!..." and they did all at once and all of them in the same room without headphones and only taking a few short breaks. Breaks only long enough to mix the previous recording. At no point did they find it necessary to add or change anything. Thus the title "No Overdubs".

After this recording Billy Cross took up permanent residence in Denmark and joined Delta Blues Band. They recorded their first album as Delta Cross Band later the same year.
