And out of nowhere it’s here – with no fanfare and no publicity, MARK KNIGHT & The Unsung Heroes new record ‘Lonesome Songs’ has arrived. As someone who has followed Mark’s music from Bang Tango, all the way to the solo records and The Unsung Heroes, this new album just might be where Mark has thrown a little caution to the wind.
On ‘Lonesome Songs’ he’s not only drawn all those colorful threads of his musical past together, but he’s also broken new ground with some songs. Mark is just hitting his stride. For fans of his solo work it will feel like it’s a greatest hits album of songs they haven’t heard (every track could be a single). To fans of his former band Bang Tango work his guitar skills have never left.
I have no doubt this albums groove and solid backbeat could only be delivered by drummer Tigg Ketler. Ketler also being a former member of Bang Tango clearly plays off their musical language to bring the music up even higher. Not to be left out is multi- instrumentalist Adam Hamilton (also co-producer). Adam brings out the albums clean but live sound that lets the music breathe in a way you feel Mark is playing right next to you.
Do yourself a favor put on headphones, pour a drink and enjoy ”Lonesome Songs”.
