THE RUNAWAY WILD is the new solo project by singer/songwriter Jon Siejka, formed in Long Island, NY in 2021. Siejka isn’t a stranger to these pages, as he is the leader of MAGIG DANCE, the terrific AOR/pop/synth band whom delivered some wonderful albums.
According to Siejka, this debut album completely sums up THE RUNAWAY WILD and therefore does not need another title. ”It’s a mix of everything I love – synthwave… 80’s melodic rock… Horror soundtracks… and sprinkled with some glam metal on top!”
“The Runaway Wild” sound combines the slick production aesthetics of ’80s inspired synthwave with the energy and passion of melodic rock and AOR music. Lyrical themes draw on the darker edge of 80s music and pop culture, leaning heavily on horror and fantasy films of the decade, giving the music a ‘soundtrack’ touch. As proof, listed as bonus tracks we find ‘Mighty Wings (Top Gun movie / Cheap Trick cover), and a version of Cutting Crew classic ‘(I Just) Died In Your Arms’.
Siejka are the star here, pure Eighties style, but also the keyboard runs and guitar solos.
This is a totally kickass retro album to get 2023 started. We love the horror / slasher flicks elements, synth waves, beats, riffs and powerful vocals. Everything about ”The Runaway Wild” feels so authentic and a homage to past we loved.
