There isn’t much info about The STEVE GORDON BAND but an indie reissue label has just released their ’80s recordings for the first time digital and well worth the listen. Singer / songwriter and guitarist Steve Gordon produced & engineered these tapes himself very well.

There’s just three tracks but all are cool slices of first half of the ’80s North American melodic rock. Seems title track ‘I’m a Prisoner Tonight’ dates from 1982 and it has that year’s sound: clean guitars, lots of vocal harmonies, vintage synths and a catchy chorus. Think a mix of Aldo Nova & Benny Mardones.

The next songs are from 1985; ‘One More Minute’ is a pumping AORish number like a crossroad between Loverboy and Chilliwack, while ‘Danger in the Air’ brings to mind Night Ranger (and no, it isn’t a variation of NR’s ‘Rumours In the Air’), both great tunes with melodious guitar riffs & swirling solos, and Gordon’s strong tenor voice.

1. I'm a Prisoner Tonight
2. One More Minute
3. Danger in the Air
