The band soon splintered with Hill moving into the production side, Anton Fig worked with Glen Burtnick and Amanda Blue started a solo career under the guidance of Gene Simmons. Given time to develop, Shanghai could have been a major force on the American AOR scene.
Formerly known as Spider, they changed their name to Shanghai in 1981 to avoid confusion with the other groups using the same name at the time. Signing to Chrysalis Records, the band comprised Amanda Blue (vocals), Keith Lentin (guitar), Beau Hill (keyboards, ex-Airborne), Jimmy Lowell (bass) and Anton Fig (drums). They debuted with a self-titled album in 1982, a keyboard dominated, melodic pop rock opus that received favourable reviews at the time of release.
