Here's Solisia another female fronted metal band from Europe, specifically Italy, doing symphonic and melodic power metal. There must be something in the water over there as these bands seem to be on the rise. UniverSeasons is the band's second full length album, now on Scarlet Records.

Essentially, Solisia sticks to the traditional formula: beautiful and strong female vocals, lavish keyboards for a symphonic layer, large amounts of riffage to make the atmosphere even richer and, of course, big guitar solos. Like other bands in the genre, Solisia can get heavy and speedy to be power metal, but also mix tempos and movements to garner some prog metal interest.

Fundamentally, then, Solisia is not reinventing the symphonic power metal 'wheel' nor bringing something novel to the table. Yet, while typical, UniverSeasons sounds very good. Early on you catch their direction, and the symphonic power metal assures you that they know what they're doing. But better songs come later with arena anthems in Betrayed By Faith and The Queen's Crown; more groove laden heavy metal in Dirty Feeling and Symbiosis; and, I Loose Myself, which showcases Elie Syrelia's vocal skill and range.

So, Solisia's UniverSeasons is rather standard European symphonic and melodic power metal fare. But it's done quite well; any fan of the genre will be pleased with this album
