Hot Boy hailed from Portland released one mini album back in 1989 via A and R Records. There are a few CDs out there that attract some big price tags that (music wise) are not worth the money, but Hot Boy – Barely Legal is not one of those. These guys play a well blend of Hard Rock/AOR/Hair Metal that most major label artists could barely touch. I look for hints that point to the style of music that interests me such as keyboards, harmony vocals and uptempo melodic rock. Others may find this style of band boring to their tastes…..It’s all in the ears and that gray stuff inbetween them!!!

The singer sometimes sound a lot like Joss Mennen, and the song structure sounds a lot like something he and Robbie Valentine would have come up with. However his voice isn’t as powerful or pitch perfect as Joss’. The keyboardist gives this a mid 80’s Bon Jovi feel, and the happy, melodic, anthemic, rockin’ approach is probably what you would get if you were to blend those two groups together while the production is spectacular. Very rare to find a copy nowdays and cost a lot but worth the try especially if you are a die hard collector…
